Rovers A finish third in the Premier Division...
Rovers A secured a creditable third place finish in the Evening League Premier Division. In what was to be probably the best game of the season, Rovers defeated Cobo by 1 run with th last ball of the game.
A youthful side up against a Cobo side full of current or ex Island players played with 100% commitment and hunger to finish third!
Rovers built their 120 around another fine innings from Lucas Barker 71 off 46 balls with Olly Tapp 21 and Joel Connor 14 giving solid support. All the bowler bowled well and Nathan Le Tissier's 4-0-21-2 being the pick... Dec Martel 4-0-25-2 , GH Smit 4-0-24-0, and Barker 4-0-48-2 in support.
The importance of taking wickets as Cobo replied was obvious and when Barker got Ashley Wright caught by Martel on the boundary the steady fall of wicket had begun.
The fielding highlight was to be a superb catch on the long off boundary by Olly Tapp to dismiss Stu Le Prevost, at full stretch off the ground landing just inside the boundary, after a little dicussion and help from Stu's dad the catch was confirmed, a huge moment in the game.
The final over arrived with Cobo hitting too many runs for comfort ending up with 2 runs required off the final ball for a tie. Barker fielding off his own bowling kept it to one! Great game, great result!

Rovers A pulled a win out of the bag as they chased down the GCB's Dev XI's 149 for 1 at KGV.

Enter Lucas Barker who led the way with a fine 63 off 38 balls and supported by Ben Fitches's 21/13, Louis Falla 20/18 and Stu Bisson 9 off 8 balls finishing it with two boundary fours.

ROVERS win for the second win in a week...
GH Smit batted the GCB Development XI into submission at Port Soif. GH, who having cracked a century in the win over the Baa-Baas last week continued his new found form with a 23-ball fifty including four sixes and six fours as Rovers made light work of the Development XI.
Lee Savident was sidelined by his rib injury, leaving Lucas Barker to captain Dev XI coach Ashley Wright was out early and the Development XI players never got on top of the bowling, Adam Wakeford and Dec Martel’s leggies keeping the batters guessing
The Rovers took full control out in the middle and a target was never likely to cause the home side many problems.
GH and at the other end Joel Connor who saw the 'Soif' side home with time to spare...
Great result and signs of a consistent team producing results, well done guys!

Rovers A - Off the mark for their first point!
Rovers A picked up the first point of the Evening League campaign yesterday in a low scoring encounter with Cobo Tigers at Port Soif.
Batting first the boys struggled to get going, but with 17 and 15 from Ben Fitchet and Dec Martel respectively a final total of 78 in the reduced 16 overs allocated, was probably a little short of where the boys wanted to be, Wow! then the Cobo reply! Lee Savident bowled the Island Director of Cricket Ashley Wright first ball of the innings and Rovers took wickets at regular intervals up to the last over when Cobo with 11 to win managed to get to two required for a win off the last ball.
The draw was ensured as they attempt the second and Joel Conner ran out Luke Nussbaumer .
Bowling wise, Lee Savident with 4-0-8-2 was the pick with Mark Jefferies 3-0-16-1, Stu Bisson 4-0-21-1 and GH Smit 4-0-23-1 being the other highlights.
Well done guys! A great fightback in the second innings and makes the efforts to get the sides out so rewarding!

Rovers A Team lose out to Cobo A in Spring KO...
ROVERS are out of the Spring Cup after losing by 9 wickets to Cobo at Port Soif.
Both sides fielded new faces, the most notable being Ash Wright, the island's new director of cricket and brother of Sussex and former England star Luke.
Rovers gave debuts to several new players, including their own former Minor Counties player, Joel Connor.
But it was a familiar old Rovers face, GH Smit, who is no great respector of reputations and straight away looked to get after Island skipper Jamie Nussbaumer and he found a good ally in Ben Fitchet, who did likewise in the opening over from another of the island seamers, Ollie Newey.
Smit did not stay long but Dec Martel, batting well, struck 26 from 20 balls and Fitchet 34 at a run per ball, but from 76 for one in the ninth over, the innings subsided as the second-wicket pair were parted, newcomer Jules Phibbs was adjudged caught behind and Connor, while looking a skilled player, struggled to maintain the tempo.
From a strong position at midway, Rovers were pegged back to 100 in their 16 which given their lack of bowling options in the absence of Stu Bisson, Adam Wakeford, Lucas Barker and Lee Savident, was unlikely to be enough.
On another day Martel might well have picked up a wicket via a stumping in his first over.
Cobo's first half-century partnership of the campaign looked secure.
Stand-in skipper Fitchet rang the changes but it was not until he turned to Smit that the breakthrough arrived, Wright (35) dancing down the wicket for a big heave.
Joel Connor needed to be treated with respect but the home side did not have enough runs to play with and victory for Cobo, by which time Nussbaumer had 41 to his name was never in doubt...
Great Team spirit and lots of promise for the season ahead. Well done guys!

Rovers C... off to winning ways on Tuesday with an 8 wkt win against Deloitte in Div 3 at a sunny Port Soif.

George Headington's spell or 4-0-21-2 being the pick of the bowling was well backed up in the field.

Life just isn't fair sometimes....
Our extremely hard working Chairman Paul Porter whilst taking the day off to work at the Soif stepped off the patio and slipped on the wet grass leading to a possible snapped quad tendon on his right leg. A diagnosis at A & E was needed with them deciding what to do next but imagine surgery shortly followed by 10 ish weeks in a cast.
Cheers to Mounty for sorting him out!
Updates to follow but here's to a swift recovery Paul...

YOUR 'NEW ROVERS'
ROVERS Cricket Club are aiming to restore its glory days within a new framework to run the club.
After the problems of raising teams in recent seasons, Rovers have rebranded to become solely Rovers CC again after the slow disintegration of its well-intended but ultimately unsuccessful merger with St Pierre CC.
The Port Soif based club - the only club to have its very own ground - have put in place a new back room team which will leave Lee Savident, the former Hampshire professional and island all-rounder, scope to concentrate fully on captaining the first XI.
He will be assisted by a team manager and 4 experienced directors with responsibilities for social media/website, direct liaison with the GCB and Domestic Cricket Committee, commercial opportunities and player recruitment and development.
The new back room team comprises Martin Gray, who has responsibility for social media and the website, Rob Batiste, liaison with the GCB and DCC, Andy Bisson, development and general 1st XI team manager, Stuart Bisson, commercial opportunities.
Another former player, Richard Hamilton, is providing background support.
Paul Porter, chairman of the parent club which also oversees football and archery, said he was confident that the new structure would lead the club back to the very top and adding to its still record number of Evening League titles.
'We have the ground, we have a good score of players, but the past few seasons have been a bit of a struggle on and off the pitch,' he said.
'The template for our new structure comes under the heading 'Shared Ownership' as we believe that a group of individuals all performing key but not overwhelming tasks, is easier to find and work effectively, than one over-burdened person who will soon turn away from the job exhausted and disillusioned.'
Rovers captain Lee Savident said he welcomed the assistance and said that while a full return to the clubs's great days would not happen overnight, they had made a strong start.
'I don't think we are at all far from being an evening league title winning side again and with this new framework it will free me up to concentrate on the team.'
For 2017 season, Rovers will play in a new kit reflecting the clubs's TWO sponsors.
They are long-term club supporters Odey Wealth who have kindly agree to a three-year extension, and Guernsey Autism.
Full details of Guernsey Autism's support and this exciting new link with Rovers, will be announced shortly.
WEEKEND CRICKET 2017
In 2017 Rovers will concentrate its efforts on the shorter game while operating a team in the Bowl competition.
Rovers had hoped to play both in the new CI League and Weekend Championship, but after the GCB chose to restrict Guernsey's involvement in the CI event to three teams, regrettably Rovers lost out.
However, assurances are in place that Rovers will return to the CI League and Championship season in 2018 on the back of a successful summer this year.
The new management team see 2017 as a summer of consolidation, regrouping and preparation for a full-on push in all competitions for 2018.
CURRY NIGHT
THE club invite all present Rovers players to a curry night at the clubhouse on Monday 14 March, 7:30pm.
The food comes FREE and before tucking in the new 'team' will give a short presentation as to what their short and long term plans are for the club.
it is important that as many players as possible attend as one of the key components of the 'new Rovers' will be a more social aspect to the cricket section.
